Unfortunately, people do not know a lot about Guyana. Some people think that Guyana is in Africa and they believe that we have a lot of wild animals running around. Others think we’re Jamaican, even though Guyana is not a Caribbean island. Still others think we must speak Spanish because Guyana is located in South America.
Before we came to the U.S., we had an idealized view of what our lives would be like here. We thought that life would be perfect, and we wouldn't have to struggle to get by. We didn’t expect that we’d have to work so hard to get everything we need in America.
